South Florida will have former Texas head coach, Charlie Strong, as their new leader. Strong takes over for Willie Taggart who left to become Oregon’s head coach. Taggart was 25-25 overall in his five seasons at the school.

This will be the first time since 2011 that the Bulls will open their season with an FBS opponent. In 2011, the Bulls defeated Notre Dame in Inflatable Water Slide South Bend to start the year. Since that game, South Florida is 4-1 against FCS opponents on week one of the college football season. The Bulls outscored those four opponents by a total margin of 177-67 or 27.5 points per game.
San Jose State won 4 games in 2016 against 3 FBS opponents (Nevada, UNLV and Fresno State) with a combined overall record of 10-26 or .277%. The Spartans outscored those opponents by a total score of 60-48 or 4.0 points per game. San Jose State also defeated Portland State (FCS) by a score of 66-35.
San Jose State lost 8 games in 2016 to FBS opponents with a combined overall record of 69-36 or .657%. The Spartans were outscored in those games by a total score of 333-167 or 20.7 points per game.
